DESCRIPTION: APW - Waltham, American Watch Co, Model 1860, 19J, 16S, 18K gold original "E.T." marked HC with initials to front shield, gold cuvette, white enamel SS dial, KWKS, lever escapement with capped escape wheel, mvt marked "Fogg's safety Pinion Patented," gilt mvt, s#210359. Gross weight of assembled watch 73.9 dwt (115.0 g). A rare top grade watch, the total production of the Model 1860 "American Watch Co." grade with gilt movement finish is believed to be between 375 and 405 made.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, plates appear to have been re-gilt having some unevenness of execution quality and some signs the finish is not the original, otherwise fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, plates with some scattered haze spots with the most notable being a single spot adjacent the fourth wheel jewel setting and a group of smaller spots near center jewel setting, some scattered fine to micro-fine scratches, very minor oxide to steelwork; dial with few hls near 9, minuscule nick near 8, tiny edge flake under bezel at 12:30; excellent hands; case shows very little wear, numerous fine to micro-fine scratches to cuvette, fine scratch to upper right front near shoulder, pinprick nick and few shallow scratch-like indents to left rear, very small filed notch and adjacent small discoloration to band near 12, no dents, excellent engine turning and engraving detail; bow pivots freely through an incomplete range of motion before becoming tight, push shows little wear; good glass crystal.
